Pleasantly surprised - smooth, not slippery

Denise.8 months ago

I was frustrated with the roughness of alleged "smooth and buttery" cotton sateen from higher end online retailers. Was almost resigned to spending a small fortune on entry level satin silk, but saw Tencel mentioned a silk alternative so thought it was worth a try. I was hesitant to get these given the reports of pilling and the fact that so many of the positive reviews were linked to promotions, but with the sale price, coupon, and return policy, I figured the worst that could happen is that I would have to return them. Here's my initial experience. * A few reviewers noted a strong chemical smell on opening. I sniffed hard and there was a barely discernable "new product" smell. After first wash and dry, didn't notice any pilling. More dryer lint compared to cotton sateen, but don't know if this is typical of Tencel or if it will continue to shed this much. Practically no wrinkling when removed promptly from dryer. The wide elastic is great for holding sheet in place, but (minor gripe) takes longer to dry than the sheet itself, so it's getting unnecessary tumbling. Will amend review if any of this changes with future washings. * The feel is smooth without being slippery (like polyester silk). Much smoother than cotton sateen. Sheets are very lightweight, which along with the claimed breathability of Tencel should make them great for summer. My first Tencel sheets, so don't know how their weight ranks with other retailers. One reviewer noted the "velcro" type effect of trying to slide the top sheet over the bottom (while making the bed, I assume). I noticed this, too, but for me it's a minor annoyance (lift and reposition method needed). Again, don't know if this is typical of Tencel sheets in general or just this brand. No friction actually sleeping in them, with skin or pajama material. * The full price is comparable to well-reviewed specialty online retailers - don't know how quality compares. Unless the sheets degrade quickly with wear and washings, they are a good value given BB&B sale price and coupon. And much smoother than the alleged "buttery smooth" cotton sateen from higher end online retailers at the same price level.

These sheets REEK when they come out of the packaging. When I washed them, the smell stayed in the dryer even without the sheets. The smell does seem to come out, but it it horrible. Other than that, the sheets seem decent, too soon to tell if they'll hold up.

Sheets do not feel good

Monica . 1 month ago

We are disappointed with the material of these sheets. They almost stick to the skin. Turning over in bed, pulls the sheets with you and can disturb your partner. Going to replace with 100% cotton material Would not recommend.

DO NOT BUY THEY WILL SHRED IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS

Scott . 1 month ago

Bought these sheets less than 3 months ago, washed them as instructed and did so every 10 days or so. And now one of the sheets has just completely come apart like it was shredded. First time buying sheets here, usually get the Polo brand from Dillard's and never had this issue. Complete waste of money.

Super soft and durable

Matthew . 3 months ago

I have Sensory Processing Disorder and even very high TC cotton sheets drive me nuts with scratchiness and I do not have the patience to have them grow "softer with age." THESE sheets, however, oh my goodness.., they are wonderful! I actually get excited when I put them on my bed because they are such a pleasure to touch. They are durable too! I have had them for a year and no sign of tears or fading. Maybe a tiny bit of pilling but virtually nothing compared to most cotton sheets I've owned. Guess I'm a Tencel person now.

Pills and pulls

BB&B Customer . 4 months ago

After 3 washes, pillowcases started to pill. After 6 washes, pills have appeared on the fitted sheet and there is a pull on the flat sheet. In spite of the comfort of the fabric, the quality doesn’t justify the price. Not to mention the bizarre sizing. Returning them.

8 months and worn through

BB&B Customer . 4 months ago

Purchased Nov 2021...fitted sheet already worn through. Very expensive purchase for 8 months.

Awesome sheets but they don't last

BB&B Customer . 5 months ago

I bought two sets of these sheets just around 2 years ago, and have rotated them this whole time. I have washed then on gentle, always on cold, and dried on a lower setting as well. Both fitted sheets have sections that are worn through - either full wholes or basically shreds of fabric. I have had sheets of much lesser quality and price last years longer before even starting to show wear, let alone actually ripping and developing holes. Total waste of money for what amounts to 1 year of use for each set.

Feel horrible on my skin

Lauren . 5 months ago

I wanted to like these, since I really liked my friend's tencel sheets, but the microfiber feels terrible against my skin. It catches every single hair on my body creating the opposite of a smooth feel - more like tension. I tried washing them and it didn't get any better. I'm sad to be stuck with these.

A win against hot flashes!

MrsTKMacMacMac . 5 months ago

My darling husband discovered the sheets after doing some research to try and help me not suffer so much with my hot flashes at night. We have a Tempur-pedic bed which also runs hot and so that combined with hot flashes has literally had me feeling like I live in Hades. These sheets are so amazing that after just a few nights sleeping on them I ordered another pair online. I am also preparing to order the mattress topper and a pillow. They truly truly truly keep me much cooler when I sleep. Absolutely invaluable for anybody dealing with hot flashes.

Love, love, love!

Trying to buy more sets now so all our beds will have them. Great elastic bands on fitted sheet. Side marked "top or bottom" is quite helpful on "clean sheet day."

Too expensive for what you get

BB&B Customer . 5 months ago

I bought these sheets in December 2021. Started using them in early spring. I hang my sheets out side, love the fresh smell, however, I started seeing pulls in the fabric. I usually buy cheaper sheets and thought this time, why not. I’ll go back to the cheaper sheets. sai

Nice initially but then.....

These sheets started pilling after a couple of washes. Not worth the money. I will stick with Wamsutta.

Best Sheets I've Ever Used

Ann . 6 months ago

I admit I was hesitant to buy these sheets because the label isn't very impressive and the price is a lot for an unknown product. But I'm a sucker for trying new things, my husband runs hot at night and the label said that these sheets regulate temperature so I figured I would try it and return if we hated it. It was love at first touch for both my husband and I, and he is HARD to impress. The fabric is cool, soft, and smooth like butter without the weird slick/silky feel. They don't slip around the bed and the fitted sheet is lined with some kind of elastic that holds it firmly in place on our deep mattress. The sheets themselves truly do regulate temperature, we've never run hot under them. They drape nicely to the body without being too heavy or unwieldy. I'm surprised by some of the other reviews, I've bought a few sets of these sheets and pillowcases as backup and none of them have smelled strange or pilled, maybe we've just been really lucky. I've tried a LOT of other sheets in my life and after falling in love with these we've gotten rid of everything else; I can't imagine using any other kind in the future so long as the quality keeps up.

Wore out in less than a year

Duke . 7 months ago

So we bought these in 2020 and only used them in the summer and spring. They have already worn through and have a whole in them (no a rip mind you) but a whole where the fabric wore through. For what we paid they definitely should have lasted longer.

Therapedic Sheet Set

Love these sheets, have several sets because the corners fit the entire mattress for a snug fit that does not come unmade.

Horrible

Shaun . 7 months ago

These sheet had a horrible smell when getting them out of the package. Then after washing (according to manufactures instructions) they are a wrinkle mess, The pillow cases look awful. These sheets are not the quality you would expect for the price. They are worse than cheap sheets from Walmart. I would return them if I could. Buyer be warn. Will never by sheets again from Bed Bath & Beyond. Inferior quality and high prices. (even with the 20% coupon)

Cozy!

Exceeded expectations. Highly recommend these sheets

Pilling

Suzanne . 8 months ago

I have had these for over 6 months now. I purchased in store, not online so this is probably not verified. I really wanted to like these sheets and up grade all the sheets in my house to these. They have a great big elastic band to hold bottom sheet in place, they fit my larger king mattress without a struggle, the material felt soft, cool and light. Pretty much everything everyone who gave it 5 stars said. I rotate my sheets with two other sets so even thought I don’t use them all the time they are pilling. They are also always wrinkled, no matter how I take from the dryer. This doesn’t t bother me as much as the pilling, I can’t sleep in that . I’m so disappointed because they are very expensive. The other sheets I rotate with are Wamsutta and a cheap pair from Costco, which have been the best so far. Looks like I head back to Costco??

Pilled After 1 Night

BB&B Customer . 9 months ago

I thought these sheets would be great since they’re pricy, but I should’ve just gone to target! I washed the sheets before putting them on the bed and followed the care instructions. Night 1 was fine but night 2 I got in bed and realized the sheet had already started to pill! Even the cheap sheets I have for backup haven’t done that! Absolutely NOT worth it. I wish I hadn’t thrown away my receipt because I would be taking these low quality sheets back! Do not waste your money!!!

these pil really easily

BB&B Customer . 9 months ago

I got these hoping they could replace my bamboo sheets (which are having supply chain issues). These felt nice, like they'd have a good weight and wear well. I've used them now for 3 days and so far I am not impressed. They started to pill after the first night, little dots all over the sheets. Then on the second night, I wore black socks to bed and when I woke up, my socks were covered in little pils from the sheets! Ew! I am not thrilled and want the bamboo to come back. These are not it.
