We have been heavy soda water drinkers for years after giving up sweetened sodas (6 or 7 years ago). Five years ago I bought the first version of Sodastream (like the Genesis model) and immediately we were able to stop buying four or five litre bottles of Pellegrino every week. Used in conjunction with our filtered water, it has given us the consistent quality at a fraction of the cost. We go through 5 cartridges every three months. We have four bottles rotating in the fridge at all times. The machine has never failed and we sort of want to buy a new one, just because. However, it's made so well that we haven't been able to justify tossing out the machine. We don't use it for mixing with soda syrup, but I have used it in many cocktails. Having the ability to alter the amount of fizz per bottle is a nice feature. I have several small bottles that I take with me to work every day, too. I can't say enough about this and should have written years ago.
Hello, some history. About 6 or so months ago I got one of these as a gift at the time I did not want to mess around with ordering carbonating containers through the mail so I took it back. Two weeks ago I got a 20% off coupon from bed bath & beyond and I decided to give it a try since they sell the gas containers there. It takes some trail and error to get the soda to taste right AND most importantly you need to read the directions first as I have seen people have issues when they try to carbonate water with the syrup already mixed (it makes a mess you MUST add the syrup AFTER you carbonate the water) The unit defiantly does what it advertises it makes good tasting pop but there are some MAJOR caveats. I found that I liked my pop with a bit more flavor almost a full capfull makes a good tasting soda and I push the button about 9 times. The issue is a bottle f syrup technically only makes 12 liters of pop. Lets assume that we stick to the companies specs 12 liters (33 12oz. cans)at 5.49 (4.99 plus tax its what they sell for locally) Whats a case of Coke or pepsi cost? I usually find about $6 for a case of 24 so here is the math Case of Coke or Pepsi at Walmart $6.00 24 cans .25 cents per can cost of machine NONE cost of carbonation NONE cost of refillable bottles NONE cost of water NONE 1 bottle of sodastream mix 4.99 at local retailer .15 cents per can if you like the way it tastes cost of machine $100 cost of carbonation $15 per container IF you buy the container at $30 (comes with 1) cost of refillable bottles $14.99 for two AND they have an expiration date so you WILL be buying replacements (YOU MUST use their "carbonating bottles") cost of water mine is .32 per liter (6.50 for a 5 gallon jug of ice mountain) or about .10 for a can of pops worth (12oz_ .15 (syrup) +.10 (water) + cost of the machine PLUS cost of gas PLUS cost of refillable bottles ???? that .25 can of coke cola is lookin REAL GOOD! I guess I'm ok having to pick up a few cases at walmart every weekend. I'm kinda upset I have some $$$ wrapped up here Machine was $80 with BB&B coupon 1 extra gas cylinder $30 2 sets of carbonating bottles $30 2 things of syrup $10 1 "mywater" $10 I can't decide whether to return the machine or not?

This SodaStream works well and saves money and plastic. However, the BBB product description is misleading. It says it includes 2 bottles but it only includes one.

I have been pondering purchasing Soda Stream as family gifts for a number of years & so glad I took the plunge this year. Do believe it was the favorite Christmas gift of 2015. The oh's & ah's heard made me smile. One of the family's creates only carbonated flavored water as pop conscious & other two family's are busy taste testing all the flavors.

I have several friends who have larger versions of these and I like this slightly more compact size better. I have had had it for a month or so. It is easy to use and works perfectly so far.
