This model uses a single large fan which is very noisy. I returned this unit in favor of the Essick EA1407 which uses two smaller fans and is much quieter.

Hello, Dan3! The H12 is a big unit, and it's meant to humidify big spaces (which it sounds like it's doing for you) so, yes, it will make a little more noise on the higher fan speeds because it is working hard to churn out moisture. If the sound is bothersome to you (most of our customers liken it to a box fan), then you might try running it on high when you're away from home and turning it down when you're at home. -Melissa, AIRCARE

What a headache, Never again David ·

Well my order arrived in tow separate orders a week apart. When the Humidifier arrived I came home to 2 of them on my front step. I proceeded inside and contacted your Help line via text with someone named Kid who need to work on his grammar and manners, it would help if he payed attention to the texts also. SO I opened my Humidifier and a piece of plastic fell from the fan housing portion. I mentioned it to Kid on the phone and he wanted me to do up a return, I told him no thanks I will just help myself to the parts from the other Humidifier you delivered. SO I opened up that box and just took out the fan and to my disappointment it to was broken. So you delivered me two broken units, wow. I tired to inform Kid as to what the problem is as I took the least damaged fan, not after cutting myself twice on it, very sharp edges. SO I told Kid about my exploits and that he is to just send someone to my house and pick up your extra unit that you shipped to me, broken and all. SO the end result is I was offered a $25 Bed Bath cash of some sort for returning a $200 Unit and having cut myself and settling with a broken machine. Well it sounds like you need the 25 more than I do so you can keep it, thanks. This Unit will more than likely be broken upon arrival at you house so be aware when you order it. The issue is the fan is merely held in place on plastic pedestals and they break during shipping.

A good looking unit. It works well. It raised the humidity in our house be 15% in two days. Two complaints: The fan is obtrusive. Whether you are bothered by this depends on your noise tolerance. The costlier two fan unit is considerably quieter. I know because we have both. The water tank for refilling the unit is a neat idea, but in practise, not so much. It is awkward to fill unless you have a laundry tub. You cannot see the water level as you fill it. The plastic tank is too opaque. You inevitably splash water everywhere. The older units that you refil with a bucket or pitcher are less messy and IMHO more practical.

humidifier or evaporative cooler? Al Poskanzer ·

Acts as an evaporative cooler and blows cold air. Also noisy - hard to sleep at night

The evaporative humidifiers do not cool. By adding moisture to the environment, they actually make it feel warmer, and most often you can turn your thermostat down because of this – saving money. This unit is built to cover 3,700 square feet, and with that large output comes more sound as the fan turns up to accommodate the coverage area. It shouldn’t be disruptive; most of our customers liken it to a box fan. It might help to run your humidifier on high during the day to help raise your humidity level, and run it on the lower fan speeds during the night time to maintain the desired humidity level. -Melissa, AIRCARE
