powerful grinder; easy to use

I have had this for a week and used at least 5 times. So far, so good. The motor is powerful, so it grinds FAST. It is noisy, though; sounds almost like a jet plane getting ready to take off. Luckily, our cats don't care. "Footprint" on counter is smaller than some other burr grinders. It is difficult to see the very light markings for the fine to coarse grind; but now that I have found correct setting, it isn't a problem, since I don't need to change it. The cup into which the ground coffee goes has a small enough diameter so that it pours into coffee cone filter without making a mess. #With Cuisinart's large cup, I needed to pour through a canning funnel.# There is static, but no more than with prior Capresso or Cuisinart plastic cups. I use a small brush to brush the remaining grounds into the paper filter. I measure my beans each time, rather than relying on the timer to determine the amount of beans that is ground. Seven rounded coffee scoops #2 TBS each# almost fills up the cup when ground. What I don't know yet is whether this grinder will clog and need to be cleaned, and if it does, how difficult that will be. That was the problem with the Capresso model. I also don't know how long this will last, with almost daily use. Capresso died and Cuisinart broke right around one year.

I grids beans but…
Herkimer ·

I bought this at the recommendation of a friend. I like the fact that you can set it for the number of cups to be ground and the degree of coarseness of the grind. Although, I found that I have to attend to the grind by moving the beans around in the hopper as they jam up underneath shield and if the beans aren’t being ground continuously you don’t get the correct measure. The amount of static of electricity built up in grinding the beans results in having fine coffee grinds all over my counter and coffee machine. Supposedly, adding a few drops of water to the beans will eliminate this. I don’t find that to be the case.

I have had several coffee grinders previously and this one is far superior. The static electricity is almost non-existent and I haven't yet had any problem with oily beans clogging even though I use the extra fine grind. It's quieter than my previous as well. I've been using it a month so far.

I was looking for a second bur grinder for decaf coffee beans. My other grinder is a Gaccia that has 34 grind settings, 34 being the coarser grind. Mine is set to 5, perfect for espresso brewing, creating nice cremma and flavor. The Espressione, on the other hand, is a waste of money if you are hoping to grind for espresso. The finest grind setting does a poor job, and the coffee brews too fast with no cremma and little aroma. There is nothing professional about this grinder. The only situations I would use this grinder for is for drip coffee or the likes.

Ease of Use

Excellent for drip type/pour over brewing.

I purchased this grinder from Bed Bath & Beyond over three years ago and remain impressed by its workhorse durability and consistent, even grind of every bean type (light roast to dark roast) poured into its hopper. The singular exception took place this morning (hence the review), when it appeared the machine failed, and the sound of grinding beans came to a grinding halt, only to replaced with whirring motor noises, grinding gears, and a locked-up mechanism. I then accepted the grinder provided an admirable three years of service and would replace it with the same--or consider a "better" model. When I removed the hopper, lo and behold, the problem became crystal clear, or rock solid, per one's choice of metaphor. Upon removing the rock and it's fragments lodged within the grinding mechanism, it performed without a hitch, catch, or broken gear tooth becoming part of this morning's blend. The only con I find with this grinder, is the shape of the hopper relative to the bean type. Lighter roast beans drop freely into the grinder, however darker roast, more oily beans move less freely, due to their increased stickiness and shallow curve of the hopper. A simple solution to this minor problem is to jostle the machine during the grind process. When increased friction coefficients work against gravity, a little help is needed. Problem solved. Conclusions: • the grinder mechanism and motor are superb, and without spending considerably more money, difficult to improve upon; • the hopper hampers bean drop and could be easily improved upon. Highly recommended.

Bad function and design

Bad design—-cannot see fineness indicator. Grounds cup has awkward shape and cover and spills alot. Bad grinder—-grind is very inconsistent. Get the capresso grinder. It’s a little more expensive but much better

It's clingy
Bed Bath & Beyond Customer ·

I'm a generaly pleasant guy but early in the morning, before the coffee is in me, I don't want to deal with issues. That being said, I've had this for a month and it makes me angry every morning. First, my coffee maker makes 12 cups, and this only goes to 10. Next, if you like a dark roast with beautiful oily beans, the thing won't feed, I have to stand over it and shake it 5 or 6 times per grind to get the beans to go down. To top all that off, the static is ridiculous, it gets all over the machine, the counter, my hands, and all those hard to clean places in the coffee maker, just clingy. I guess you get what you pay for.

good burr grinder, does not need frequent cleaning

This is the second of these grinders I have bought. First lasted 22 months, and I was able to return it under BBB's FANTASTIC customer satisfaction warranty. I measure my beans for each pot of coffee, as the timer is not accurate enough for me. This grinder can be used a LONG time before it needs to be taken apart and cleaned (which is a major advantage over the Capresso, which needs to be cleaned very frequently and is difficult to put back together). The container into which the ground coffee goes is narrow enough that you can pour ground coffee into the filter without making a mess (an advantage over the Cuisinart model, where I needed to use a large canning funnel). The grind can be set from very fine for espresso to very coarse for a French press. There is static in the plastic grounds container, but that seems to be a universal problem with plastic. I tap it and then brush to get almost all of the ground coffee out.
