I like it!

I bought the small 3 cup version of this today and I'm pretty happy with it. I made two pots of french press coffee already! The 3 cup french press is small and only makes about 8 oz of coffee. It has a 12 oz carafe, but about 1/3 of it is taken up by coarse ground coffee. So I would say the 3 cup size is good for people who want to make only one 8 oz cup of coffee at a time. The bigger coffee makers may be more practical for most. However I like this one for a single afternoon pick-me-up, because it is easier to handle and uses less coffee, and the smaller cup of coffee will stay warm while I drink it. The beaker is glass and seems pretty fragile. I would plan on buying an extra beaker if you cannot live without this coffee maker for a day. Also be aware of how firmly you press the coffee down. I would think excessive pressure could break the beaker. The biggest problem is finding a way to coarse grind the coffee. Most less expensive coffee grinders will not grind coarse coffee consistently, so you end up with grounds in your coffee cup. I used a glass coffee cup with a stem and drank the coffee black (it looked medium brown), so the fine grounds in the bottom were easily avoided. I used my cheap coffee grinder and ground the 3 scoops of beans one second and a time, then shook them down to the bottom of the grinder after each second of grinding. It worked out OK. I did not want to invest hundreds of dollars in a grinder that is proven to coarse grind consistently. The coffee was really good. Not so watery as my drip coffee, good flavor, not bitter at all. I used the same eight oclock coffee beans that I use in my drip filter, but it tasted better in the french press - very smooth and I did not need milk or creamer, which makes the coffee cold anyway, and adds calories. I did add sweetener which made it taste delicious. I tend to like coffee on the weaker side, but not watery. If you have never made french press coffee, I recommend watching some youtube videos and doing a little research. There are some good tips on youtube. Also plan on taking it apart and rinsing all the pieces soon after drinking the coffee. And dry/store the beaker upright in an undisturbed location, so that your other dishes don't actually fall on it and break the beaker. The 3 cup french press came with a scoop and does not require paper filters. (I don't know about the other sizes.)

Broke after one week - just cracked

Hi - we thought it was a good find at first, but after 1 week of using (maybe 7 uses?), it literally just cracked when we were cleaning it. cleaning it with cold water/rinsing. Not in the dishwasher or anything funky. We threw out all of the boxes so of course we couldn't return it. Such a waste. Too bad, the coffee tasted good the first week we had it.

Bad quality- keeps breaking

First of all, the product arrived a month late, it was meant to be Christmas gift. Then the different parts of the French press keep coming apart, the mesh layers get unscrewed very easily. The lid doesn’t move from “closed” to “open” without getting unscrewed. Very disappointed .

thought it was bigger

Works great. I thought it would make up to 2 cups of coffee, but it doesn't fill my regular coffee mug.

This item feels cheap.

I was recently gifted one of these french presses. The first thing I noticed was the lid feels very loose and flimsy. It didn't fit snugly into the cup and I felt like I had to hold it while pouring out the coffee so it would stay in place and I wouldn't spill hot water all over myself. The ball on top of the press isn't much nicer, It was a hard plastic and it felt like a tiny wiffle ball. It recessed into the cap a bit when pressing the coffee which made it difficult to grip to remove. The handle doesn't help either. It has the same thin metal as the cap, the hardware doesn't fit snugly, and the handle feels like the same cheap plastic as the plunger. Speaking of the plunger, it seemed to fit too tightly into the cup. If I pressed the plunger all the way down into the empty cup I could carry the thing around no problem. I tried to test the limits of this carrying method with water. It held up pretty well, but at a little over half full I dropped it and broke it. I was honestly pretty surprised seeing as I found it difficult to remove the plunger to clean out the cup after I had pressed my coffee. The plunger didn't want to come out easily and I had to put some force behind it to get it to budge. The functionality of the thing was fine. It did what it says it should do, Brewed coffee and no grounds in the cup. But it feels like it should be about half the cost and sold on one of those cheap imitation product websites. I didn't expect something fancy or high-end, but I expected something that at least fit together well.

Works great; Makes only one cup!

I really like this French press coffee maker a lot and it works great; however I wish it were a little larger! It says it’s a 3 cup size, but only makes about 10 ounces. I don’t know how they figure that’s 3 cups!

Even the big one is too small...
Patricia ·

...that's what she said, ba dum bum. I'll show myself out. Anyway, for real this is the larger of the two offerings and it is still slightly too small. You get about 2.5 mugs of joe out of this french press. The directions say not to take it apart and wash it too often but it really holds coffee grounds in it's crevices and cracks so I can see this being an issue. All in all, it's fine and does the trick. The great news is, if you have other French Press pots that are about the same size, this one's press aparatus fits standard glass pots. :) PRO TIP, yer welcome.
