I am somewhat relieved to see that others who bought this ill-conceived product had the same experience as I did. I too, bought it for my elderly mother because her arthritic hands could no longer use a manual one. What a disaster. The first time it arrived, there was no "top lever." Completely missing from the package. Sent it back, waited an additional 10 days to get the second one. It arrived yesterday, and I saw that they had packaged the level separately from the main unit, which begs the question, "why wouldn't this small of an appliance not be assembled completely, and boxed accordingly?" So, as pointed out by others, you "install" the lever by inserting the "peg" on it's back into the corresponding hole on the main unit. It doesn't "click" or otherwise confirm that it is in to stay. It sort of "hangs" there, part way on, part way off. I would never be able to stand using this, let alone my mom who is also vision-impaired. What a hassle.

This is without a doubt the worst can opener on the face of the earth. The top handle does not stay on, you have to get the can directly under the blade and even then it doesn’t cut. Do not order this unless you want to be frustrated every time you want to open a can. Very disappointed.

Difficult to get cans set properly, cutting lever kept popping out, took it back. Don’t recommend.

My mother had her heart set in this bc she could no longer use a can opener, so I bought it for her. Despite much PATIENT training, she just can't use it. Other than that, it works just fine and feels durable. and a good value.
