But don’t worry - our collection of moving must-haves takes the guesswork and the stress out of the “moving hangover.” Try to make sure you have a few comfort and practical items on hand to make the transition easier. Have pillows and bedding handy for your first night so you feel cozy and at home. Get your coffeemaker set up before bed so you don’t have to search for your caffeine fix first thing in the morning. Other move-in essentials should include cleaning supplies, window shades, bathroom accessories and, most importantly, a smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Your new house will be a home in a snap!
The “First Night” Moving Box
When we asked our moving experts for their favorite piece of advice about moving, they all talked about packing a “first night” box. What’s a first night box? This is your most important box - the one you either keep with you in your vehicle or ensure it’s right at the front of the moving truck so you can grab it immediately. Your first night box contains all the things you’ll need for your first night in your new home. Often, these are items that you might not think about until it’s too late! So, pack these “first night” items: personal hygiene items, pillows and bedding, shower curtain and hooks, snacks and drinks, trash bags, extension cords, scissors or box cutters, a first aid kit, and supplies for your pet. Ready to get moving? Let’s go!
